Your Consultant and Trainer- Melanie’s Story
I am the founder of Setting Standards Worldwide and the creator of the 'People Skills First' learning experience.
For twenty two years I have successfully worked in the service industry – as retail manager, tour director, events manager and cruise hostess.

Travelling extensively and working worldwide, I have worked in the world’s top hotels - from the “Ritz-Carlton” in Singapore, Dublin and Berlin to the “Monte
Carlo Bay Hotel” in Monaco, "The Kempinski" in St. Petersburg and “The

Grosvenor” in London.

Many events involved prestigious locations such as Westminster Palace, the FIFA World Cup ’06 in Germany and Silverstone. Much of my work has taken me onboard some of the world’s most luxurious cruise liners and motor yachts- QE2, Caronia and Silversea’s Silver Whisper among others.
I have worked with leading blue-chip companies like IBM, Accenture, HBSC, MasterCard, KPMG, Hewlett and Packard, BP, Kier, GSK, Samsung, BT, Chrysler, Volvo and BMW. This year I have also managed programmes at the European Championships ’08 in Austria and Switzerland.
I passionately believe in my personal ethos of meeting the highest of standards. Leading by example, I have been able to manage and deliver demanding events and contracts successfully throughout my career.
My work has given me first-hand experience in leading and working with teams successfully from a sales and service perspective, while experiencing hugely differing service levels! This wide variation in service is not just limited to hotels, but is seen daily wherever we go, from supermarkets to estate agents, airlines to local surgeries.

Friendliness, politeness, helpfulness … staff commitment and confidence … professionalism and that personal touch … respect and trustworthiness … attentiveness, efficiency and exceeding expectations…they’re all attributes of People Skills. They’re

all needed to connect with people and deliver Excellence in Service. And all too often, I found that they’re sadly lacking.

My conclusion has been that there is no consistency in service levels, and no existing standard for achieving them.
This is exactly what has inspired me to create Setting Standards Worldwide by sharing my learning and experiences. It is my vision to help others achieve the very best personal service by setting a recognised Standard in People Skills
